Sungtrul Rinpoche's 2010 North American Tour

The Venerable Lhalung Sungtrul Rinpoche, the Speech Emanation of Pema Lingpa, is visiting the U.S. for the first time this spring. Rinpoche is extending a great blessing to our Sangha by including Yeshe Khorlo on his tour of North America. This is a rare and precious opportunity to deepen our connection to the Peling Tradition.

Sungtrul Rinpoche was born in 1967 in the Chumi Valley of Bhutan. He was recognized as the speech incarnation of Pema Lingpa at the age of three by a delegation of monks. At four years of age he was brought to live with the monks of Tharpaling Monastery. There he studied under the Kathog Rinpoche during the winter, and during the summer months he lived and studied at Tamshing Monastery under Lopon Tseten and Tenzin Nyima.

At the age of 10, together with Namkha Nyingpo, he traveled throughout Bhutan and Nepal under the tutelage of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. From 1983 to 1985 he studied in Rumtek followed by five years of studies in Mysore. After his studies he performed a traditional 3 year, 3 month, 3 day, 3 hour meditation retreat at Gangtey Gompa in Bhutan.

Sungtrul Rinpoche currently resides at Dramitse Monastery in Eastern Bhutan, which he has painstakingly restored over the last 8 years. His has official seats in Tamshing Monastery in Bhutan, where he is the spiritual and temporal leader, as well as in Lhalung Monastery in Tibet.
